Compatibility & Ordering
How do I know which SYNC system my Ford or Lincoln has?
Check your vehicle’s touchscreen and the SYNC version shown in its settings menu. SYNC 2 (MyFord Touch), SYNC 3, and SYNC 4 use different hardware. Model year alone is not enough to confirm compatibility. If you are unsure, contact us with your year, make, model, VIN, and a photo of your current display.
How do I choose the correct upgrade or replacement?
The correct product depends on your vehicle’s year, model, and existing SYNC system. Visit our Shop All Products page to browse Ford and Lincoln SYNC upgrades, APIM replacements, and conversion kits. Review the vehicle compatibility information on each product listing to find options for your vehicle. If you’re unsure which product is right for you, contact us with your vehicle’s year, make, model, VIN, and a description of your current system. We’ll help you select the correct product.
Why do you need my VIN?
We use your VIN and vehicle configuration to program applicable APIM modules before shipping, helping preserve supported factory functions. Please double-check your VIN when ordering and tell us about any previous radio or SYNC modifications.
Are your components genuine Ford OEM parts?
Our OEM SYNC upgrade and APIM offerings use genuine Ford/Lincoln components rather than replica modules. Depending on the listing, components may be new or professionally refurbished. Check each product page for the exact condition and contents.
Can I add factory navigation if my vehicle did not originally have it?
For compatible SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 upgrades, yes. Select the navigation-equipped option when ordering. Factory navigation uses navigation-capable APIM hardware and generally cannot be added to a non-navigation APIM through a simple software update. Smartphone navigation through CarPlay or Android Auto is available without factory navigation.
SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 Upgrades
What do I gain by upgrading from SYNC 2 to SYNC 3?
A more responsive interface, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with compatible phones, updated voice features, and optional factory navigation. Our SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 upgrade kit is designed for compatible vehicles that currently have the factory 8-inch SYNC 2/MyFord Touch system.
Will my backup camera, heated seats, climate controls, and steering-wheel buttons still work?
Supported factory features are normally retained through VIN-specific programming, including the backup camera, steering-wheel controls, and equipped climate or heated-seat controls. Some vehicle-specific exceptions exist; for example, Active Park Assist is not supported after conversion on certain Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles. Contact us about unusual equipment before ordering.
Does SYNC 3 have wireless Apple CarPlay or wireless Android Auto?
No. Factory SYNC 3 uses a wired USB connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless operation requires a separate compatible wireless adapter; it is not a native SYNC 3 feature.
Will upgrading to SYNC 3 give me FordPass remote-start or connected vehicle features?
No. A SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 conversion does not add FordPass connected-vehicle functionality to a vehicle that lacks the required factory modem and related connectivity hardware. The touchscreen upgrade alone cannot provide those services.
Do I need to purchase any other parts for the SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 kit?
Our complete kit includes the components needed for the compatible application, such as the APIM, touchscreen, connecting cable, USB hub, GPS antenna, and vehicle-specific adapters where required. You may need to reuse existing mounting brackets. See the kit contents for details.
Do I have to change my SiriusXM subscription?
A compatible conversion generally retains the existing satellite-radio receiver and subscription arrangement, so a new subscription is not normally needed. Satellite-radio operation also depends on the vehicle’s ACM and existing equipment.
APIM Replacements & Troubleshooting
What is an APIM?
The Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) is the computer that operates much of the SYNC infotainment system, including its user interface and connected features. The touchscreen, USB hub, audio control module, and vehicle wiring are separate components.
What are common signs of a failing APIM?
Symptoms can include a frozen or repeatedly restarting SYNC system, an unresponsive interface, Bluetooth or phone-connection failures, navigation errors, or a black display. These symptoms are not proof of an APIM failure because screens, power, wiring, and other modules can cause similar issues.
My SYNC screen is black. Do I need a new APIM or screen?
A black screen can be caused by an APIM, touchscreen, fuse, power/ground connection, wiring, or another vehicle issue. If possible, check whether the radio still plays audio, whether the backup camera appears, and whether FORScan reports module communication faults. Contact us before ordering if the cause is unclear.
Can I replace only the SYNC 3 APIM and keep my current screen?
Often yes, if your existing screen is working and compatible with the replacement module. Our SYNC 3 APIM replacements are programmed for the vehicle information you provide. Please confirm your current SYNC version and equipment before purchasing.
What if the replacement APIM does not fix my original problem?
Contact us promptly with your order number and symptoms. We can help troubleshoot whether the cause is the APIM, screen, vehicle wiring, configuration, or another component. An APIM that tests functional may be handled as a non-defective return rather than a warranty defect. Our return policy explains eligibility, time limits, and deductions.
SYNC 4 & Screen Upgrades
Can I upgrade my vehicle from SYNC 3 to SYNC 4?
A full SYNC 4 retrofit is possible for certain supported vehicles, but compatibility depends on the model, model year, factory equipment, and the specific kit. SYNC 4 is not a software update that can simply be installed on a SYNC 3 APIM. Contact us to confirm available options for your vehicle.
Is an upgraded screen the same as a full SYNC 4 system?
No. A screen-only upgrade changes display hardware but does not automatically replace the SYNC 3 operating system or APIM. A true SYNC 4 conversion requires compatible SYNC 4 electronics and related hardware. Read the specific product description to understand what is included.
Do you offer factory 4-inch to 8-inch touchscreen conversions?
Yes, for selected Ford models and model years. These kits are different from our SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 upgrade because a factory 4-inch system may require additional controls, brackets, wiring, and vehicle-side programming. Contact us to verify the correct kit.
Will a screen or SYNC 4 upgrade preserve my camera and factory controls?
Our vehicle-specific kits are designed to retain supported features, but results depend on the vehicle configuration and the selected conversion. Please disclose aftermarket equipment or previous modifications and verify compatibility before ordering.
Installation, Programming & Software Updates
Are your SYNC upgrades plug-and-play?
Our SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 kits and applicable APIM replacements are VIN-programmed before shipping and designed for straightforward installation using factory-style connections. Some other conversions, particularly factory 4-inch to 8-inch upgrades, may require additional vehicle-side programming or installation steps. Follow the instructions for your specific product.
Will I need a dealership or FORScan programming?
Normally not for a standard compatible SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 kit or VIN-programmed APIM replacement. Certain 4-inch to 8-inch conversions and nonstandard vehicle configurations may require FORScan or additional configuration. We will identify those requirements where applicable.
Can I install the kit myself?
Many customers complete a SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 upgrade with basic trim-removal tools and care around electrical connectors. Installation difficulty varies by vehicle and product. Disconnect power where instructed, protect trim and connectors, and use professional installation if you are not comfortable removing dashboard components.
How do I update SYNC 3 software?
For supported systems, check Ford’s official SYNC update resources. Another option is the free third-party tool at CyanLabs, used at your own discretion. We do not advertise Wi-Fi software updating as a feature of our SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 conversions. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay updates do not update the SYNC operating system.
Will installing your upgrade void my entire vehicle warranty?
Installing an aftermarket or replacement component does not automatically void every part of a vehicle warranty. However, a manufacturer may deny coverage for a particular repair if the modification caused the failure, subject to applicable law. All Things Sync provides its own applicable product warranty; we cannot guarantee Ford coverage for a retrofitted SYNC system.
Shipping, Returns & Warranty

What is your return policy?
Standard return requests must be submitted within 14 calendar days of delivery. Approved returns must generally be shipped back within 7 calendar days of authorization. Non-defective returns may have product-specific deductions and shipping charges. Please request authorization before sending anything back and read the full return and refund policy.

Inspect the shipment promptly and contact us within 7 calendar days of delivery. Send photos of the product, shipping box, and internal packing materials, and keep all packaging while we review the issue. Shipping damage is handled separately from the product warranty. See our return policy.
What warranty comes with your products?
Eligible SYNC 3 and SYNC 4 conversions, SYNC 3 APIM replacements, and other covered products include a 1-year limited warranty. SYNC 2 APIM replacements include a 90-day limited warranty. Coverage begins on delivery and applies to qualifying defects under the limited warranty terms; installation damage and unrelated vehicle faults are not covered.
How do I request warranty support?
